 On Wednesday 3rd January 2007 Michael Perham, successfully sailed into English Harbour, Antigua. At age 14 he has become the youngest person ever to sail single handed across the Atlantic Ocean. He set off from Gibraltar on the 18th November 2006 and called in at the Canaries & Cape Verde Islands for equipment repairs before heading west towards the Caribbean.
The Deputy Prime Minister said, "Michael has proved himself another hugely successful sailor in the great British maritime tradition. I have no doubt the whole country will join me in sending congratulations on this remarkable achievement by such a young man."
