Atlantic FAQ

Won’t the weather be rough in November?

In these latitudes the weather is not too good, which is why we are departing from Gibraltar and heading south where we can expect good weather and follow the trade winds to the Caribbean.

How are you getting the boats down to Gibraltar?
We will be trailing them down through France and Spain.

How will you get back from Antigua?
We will fly back. My boat will be transported by ship back to the UK. My Dad’s boat will be sold in Antigua.

Is it dangerous?
The chances of having an accident on a horse are far higher than on a boat. The Tide 28 is really well built and we have loads of safety equipment on board.  My Dad is also shadowing  me on his boat.

Will you be lonely?
At the time of the year we are going there are literally hundreds of charter boats that finish their summer season in the Mediterranean and sail across to the Caribbean for the winter season. There is also a large rally of a couple of hundred boats that departs the Canaries which we will coincide with. We might not actually see many other boats, but they will most certainly be there, over the horizon.

Will you be bored?
Apart from all the ‘sailing’ things that have to be done, I like reading and listening to music. I will have to do some school work.  I hope to teach myself the Guitar. I will also be doing a fair bit of filming to record the trip.

Can you radio home?
We are taking satellite phones. We also hope to have a web cam on board.
